I've got a host of posts lining up but still not recovered from swine 'flu so thought I'd just put a few teaser pics up to hold your interest and as an aide memoire!
I've got one of these wretched guided busways coming to my town, in the place of an old railway line that is still in situ and could be restored at a cheaper cost.
Luton - Dunstable. Dunstable tried to get the railway back but we failled misserably in the face of the tyranical cock ups of Luton. Rail is the wat forward and our Government still does not understand that. It's no wonder they got us into this mess. They are only out for themselves and not for the people of Britain (You can't call it Great in the state that it is in!)
To be fair to the govt, it is the Tory county council which is pushing the busway idea, just as is the case with Cambridge/St Ives. From what I've read the Dunstable scheme was thought to be dead until the council recently issued a call for tenders for its construction.
Of course, Dunstable, and like you say the Tories again. I suppose it’s hardly surprising as they were the instigators of Beeching, but they can't claim to be careful with taxpayer’s money when these schemes cost more than reinstating a railway? It is the same old road based ideology that has us fighting for oil.

maybe to get the money to restore the s+d we should pretend we're going to build a guided busway, and then use it to build a railway line....
