wincanton

A lovely shot of Wincanton, probably early 60s. This has a very Southern Region feel to it and if you disregard the lack of a conductor rail very similar to the stations I grew up with along the Brighton to Portsmouth route.
Sadly this site is obliterated today, but it will be back! Wincanton's a small town, but certainly big enough to have its own station, even today. It's also the base for the very large Wincanton Transport lorry company, which will no doubt switch all its activities to rail over the next decade or two. I imagine they'll be one of the biggest pushers for a reopened S&D to Wincanton so they can continue their operations but using modern transport.
I think this is one of the last of the photos sent by Jim Type. If anyone else out there has access to S&D pictures please send them so I can blog them!
